The simple experience of spending time with work colleagues without the normal pressures of work activities is an effective team building tool in itself. However we can enhance this by using various tools such as indoor games and exercises, outdoor tasks and activities.
Example Team Building Event
One company from Birmingham celebrated their 10th year in business in 2005 and we ran a 007 Limousine Spy event for them. They had five teams, all with an appropriate James Bond film name and dress.
They had to find their way to six different missions throughout Warwickshire and complete them in order to complete their assignments. The day included a serious gourmet lunch and plenty of champagne - not to mention martinis!
Everyone in the Company entered into the spirit of the day and really felt the benefit of a day out!
The important thing about team building is to bring the group together, encourage empathy with each other and remove barriers.
A suitable team building event could be competitive Pub Games before dinner, or an on foot Treasure Hunt, or a series of new activities to participate in.
Anything that gets a group talking and thinking about each other will build a strong team spirit.
